CARC Powder Coatings

The Times They Are A-Changin’

This past month (February 2022) the United States Army released its first ever climate strategy, signaling a monumental shift in environmental culture at The Pentagon. While budgets have yet to be agreed upon, the established goals are aggressive – plans include cutting emissions 50% by the year 2030, and be net zero by 2050.

These ambitious targets are significant as the Dept. of Defense accounts for more than 50% of the US Federal Government’s total carbon footprint, and more than 50% of the its electricity use. A reduction of greenhouse gas emissions to this proportion will require an upgrade to both military hardware, and the methodology used to manufacture this equipment.

Impact to US Military Contractors

To help reach these ambitious goals, Contractors will soon be required to account for total emissions associated with the production and use of military hardware. For the powder coater this should mean new opportunities! Powder coatings offer:

  • the most environmentally friendly coating system available
  • greater corrosion protection due to improved adhesion
  • improved life cycle for the coated hardware

While we are all eager to see our ‘swords beaten into ploughshares, and spears into pruning hooks’ a more responsible use of resources is a welcomed change in culture at the Department of Defense. These changes in specification will require greater expertise in assessing the specified requirements, and a solid grasp on seamlessly transitioning from liquid specification to powder coatings.

At TIGER we have been investing in this philosophy, and we can support you as you grow as a contractor within this industry!
