With TIGER’s high quality products and the coater’s process integration as a starting point, each step is validated and certified in order to support long-term warranties for individual products. Areas of review for accreditation include: product storage, pretreatment and powder application as well as quality assurance and packing.
Film thickness measurement
The film thickness of a coating system not only affects the cost efficiency of the coated part, but also influences physical properties such as the protective effectiveness, the mechanical strength, or the fitting accuracy when powder-coated elements are assembled.
Curing oven measurements
By performing regular measurement audits with a curing oven recorder (Datapaq), TIGER aims to calibrate a coater’s curing oven, detect and remedy any weak points in the oven, and identify any creeping temperature drift (drift increases the risk of insufficient or excessive cross-linking).
Pretreatment: adhesion to substrate
Proper and correct pretreatment, as required by the substrate being coated, is critical to the adhesion of the powder coating to the substrate. Correct pretreatment is assured by cross-cut testing on the substrate (as a rapid onsite test) as well as by salt spray testing and testing under tropical conditions, such as humidity, in TIGER laboratories.
Handling and transportation
Another factor influencing the quality of a powder coating, particularly over a prolonged period, is proper storage and correct handling during in-factory transit. Temperature-sensitive powder coatings require specific handling compared to other coating systems. TIGER can accompany you on an inspection tour of your facility to identify potential improvements.
Reduction of surface-related rejects, and process optimization
TIGER takes the time to gain a thorough understanding of the specific issues relating to a coater’s surface finishing process. On this basis, a custom-coating solution is developed with the aim of making a lasting reduction in a coater’s reject rate. This is achieved by, identifying changes in the substrate, new product characteristics, modifying the curing duration or temperature, or, ideally, eliminating the need for an entire step in the process.
