TIGER Drylac® Series 09
Versatile epoxy-polyester powder coating engineered for high-quality interior applications.
Quick facts:
- Epoxy-polyester blend (hybrid) powder coating for interior use
- Available in smooth and textured surfaces
- Gloss ranges from glossy to matte
- Broad selection of RAL colors and special effects
- Excellent chemical resistance and mechanical properties
What is Series 09?
Series 09 is TIGER’s standard interior powder coating based on an epoxy-polyester blend - also called a hybrid system. The formulation combines the excellent mechanical resistance and adhesion characteristic of epoxy chemistries with the broader color stability and processing flexibility of polyester, making it a highly practical choice for demanding interior coating applications. What makes Series 09 special is its broad selection of RAL colors as well as special effects like Hammertone, Antique and Metallics, rarely available in other interior product lines. If a broad color and effect offering are essential to an interior project, Series 09 is the product to reach out for.
Where it's used
Series 09 is the go-to interior powder coating across a broad range of manufacturing industries, like General Industry and Furniture environments. Its combination of versatile finish options, mechanical robustness, and chemical resistance makes it a reliable default choice wherever coated metal parts must perform reliably, both mechanically and decoratively, in indoor spaces. Typical application fields include:
- Ceiling paneling and interior cladding components
- Store fixtures, shelving systems, and display units
- Office and school furniture
- Radiators and heating equipment
- Machinery parts and industrial equipment components
Primary substrates: Aluminium, steel, and galvanized steel. Selection of the appropriate pretreatment method depends on the substrate type and intended application environment - please refer to the pretreatment table in the Product Data Sheet.
Application and Processing
Most Series 09 powder coatings are standard stock items developed for Corona-Application. Custom-order products are also available in Tribostatic formulation on inquiry (excluding antique and metallic effects). Detailed processing instructions are provided in our General Application Guidelines. For Hammertone products there apply separate Hammertone Processing Guidelines!
The right film thickness depends on the finish you are applying. Staying within the specified range for your chosen product is important for both appearance and performance:
- Smooth finishes: 60–80 µm
- Rough texture matte: 90–120 µm
- Hammertone glossy: 100–120 µm
Curing conditions for Series 09 coatings vary depending on the exact finish chosen:
Smooth Glossy | ||
|---|---|---|
Substrate Temperature |
| Recommended Curing Time |
200°C |
| 10 minutes |
180°C |
| 15 minutes |
Smooth Matte / Rough Texture Matte / Hammertone Glossy | ||
|---|---|---|
Substrate Temperature |
| Recommended Curing Time |
200°C |
| 10 minutes |
190°C |
| 12 minutes |
It is essential to measure substrate temperature, not oven air temperature, and to stay within both the minimum and maximum curing times. Under- or over-curing can affect mechanical properties and visual appearance. Full curing parameter charts are available in the Product Data Sheet!
At a film thickness of 60 µm, Series 09 yields a theoretical coverage of 9.8 to 13.8 m² per kilogram, depending on the specific gravity of the color chosen. Specific gravity ranges from 1.2 to 1.7 g/cm³ and varies with pigmentation: lighter colours and whites typically sit at the lower end of the gravity range and therefore cover more area per kilogram, while heavily pigmented or metallic variants sit higher. For practical planning purposes, coverage at thicker film thicknesses, such as the 90 to 120 µm required for rough texture matte, will be proportionally lower. The TIGER Coverage Calculator provides detailed guidance on estimating coverage for specific products and film thicknesses and is available for free.
Series 09 powder coatings should be stored in dry conditions at a temperature of no more than 25 °C, away from direct sunlight and extended heat exposure. Storing the product outside these conditions, particularly in warm or humid environments, can affect powder flowability, electrostatic behaviour, and surface quality after application. Series 09 usually comes with a 12-month shelf-live, which should always be observed; powder used beyond expiry falls outside the product specification.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. Series 09 is an epoxy-polyester hybrid formulated exclusively for interior use. The epoxy component in the formulation is sensitive to UV radiation: prolonged outdoor exposure will cause chalking and colour fade. For exterior applications, TIGER recommends polyester-based series such as Series 29 for architectural use or other UV-stable products from the TIGER Drylac® exterior range.
Series 09 and Series 89 are both hybrid powder coating systems designed for interior use, with largely similar mechanical and chemical properties, as well as substrate compatibility. The key differences lie in curing and product selection:
Series 09 cures at standard temperatures (starting from 180°C substrate temperature), while Series 89 is a low-cure formulation that works at temperatures starting at 160°C, offering energy savings and better compatibility with heat-sensitive components. When it comes to finishes and effects, the two series complement each other perfectly. Series 09 offers a broader decorative range, including hammertone, antique, and metallic effects (which are not available in Series 89), as well as over 30 RAL colors in a smooth glossy finish. Conversely, Series 89 serves as an ideal complement for fine and rough texture finishes, covering many options that are not available in Series 09, while offering a more limited selection of smooth glossy RAL colors.
Yes. Series 09 can be applied to steel and galvanized steel with appropriate pretreatment.
